Chicago BMW ++
Another plug for Chicago BMW -- new parts at 20% off plus a VERY helpful parts counter guy. Called me up to warn me that BMW upped the price of one of the parts I ordered (+$15, not a huge deal), but I gave him a "while I have you on the phone" and he sounded like he knew the job I was doing ("ripped the splines off, huh? OK, you'll probably also need a new input shaft bearing, and how about a new clutch slave cylinder seal?" "Oh! Forgot about that! Yes please!")

Totally cool to work with, happy to help a customer, knowledgeable. Two thumbs up.

Two "buyer bewares" regarding Chicago BMW:

1. Personal experience is that it takes a LONG time to get your parts from them. I've had one order lost, others have taken weeks, and these were standard parts my local dealer had on their shelves but I was too cheap to buy.

2. Anecdotal stories regarding their service. I don't know this rider personally, but if you read through his ride report (and do -- it's a great read with fantastic pictures, http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=427909) you'll see these two posts:

Now, there's two sides to every story, but I don't see any reason why this guy would lie about something like this. After reading his story and seeing the pictures I get a trustworthy feel and a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Chicago BMW.

Oh, ew.

Well, we'll see when (if) the parts come in how long it takes and if the order's correct. Sounds like they have some real mouth-breathers working the service dept. :-/
